As a precautionary measure againts the  '' Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome '' ( SARS ) illness, all crew are ensure that joining Star Cruises' ships are free of  SARS  infection or symptoms and that they engage themselves in normal health care and hygenic lifestyle.

 

Crew  MUST   ensure that they are thoroughly screened prior to departure from home country to join Star Cruises' ships.

 

Human lives are at stake here . As such , it is our joint concern to ensure that no one is affected by this  SARS  illness which could de fatal . 

 

Star Cruises adopts a stringent health policy whereby all shipboard staff and crew are examined for medical fitness and issued with a medical fitness certificate . All crew have been alerted to be vigilant, and kept informed of all the symptoms associated with  SARS  and to report such incidences immediately. Crew has also been issued with strict guideline on their movement while on shore during their shore leave in the countries that are affected with  SARS .

 

All public areas onboard  Star Cruises' ship have generous space good ventilation and aeration and passengers are not restricted to confined spaces for prolonged periods as fresh air is available all over the ship as well as on the open - space decks.

 

Star Cruises' vessel are also equipped with medical doctors and facilities for passengers and crew . As a futher precautionary measure. Star Cruises will be incresing its medical staff to cope with any eventualities. There are also sufficient isolation / quarantine facilities onboard. The vessels are also prepared for any medical emergencies including  helicopter evacuation. In the event of a  SARS  case being reported, the passengers / crew will be isolated and quarantine until the ship's arrival in the next port - of - call where the victim will be futher treated at a land - based hospital .

 

 

Star Cruises wishes to inform that two of its crew of Indian nationality have been placed under observation at hospital in Singapore and Malaysia after displaying symptoms such as fever and coughing.

The first of the two crew was admitted to Langkawi Hospital on Monday,7th April 2003 . Based on the latest available reports, the crew has responded positively to medication and the crew is expected to be discharged from the hospital in a day or two pending confirmation of futher medical results. 

The other crew was admitted to the Tan Tock Seng hospital in Singapore on 9th April 2003 for observation and treatment for high fever.

As an immediate voluntary precautionary measure, Star Cruises had quarantined 13 crew who are believed to have been in contact with the above crew onboard the cruises ship.

Star Cruises has taken every proative and precautionary measure its capacity since the onset of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome ( SARS ) in certain countries in this region. Such measures even include the wearing of surgical masks by all crew at all times and the suspension of crew shore leave in SARS - effected countries with effect from 29th March 2003 . Any passengers or crew who displays symptoms related to SARS will be denied boarding the ship in compliance with directives issued by health authorities in Singapore and Malaysia. Any crew who displays such symptoms will be sent to a land-based hospital for futher observation.                   (  April 11.2003.   ).

 

The two said crews have been discharged from hospital and now back to board .                     (   April 19. 2003   )
